The story is set in Japan and revolves around a premise that is present anywhere in the world, and that makes us think about our own life.
This book tells us the story of Keiko Furukura, a 36-year-old woman who has been working at a convenience store since she was 18. Over the years, Keiko started to feel more and more pressure from her family and friends, to fit the social standards of a woman her age – to get married, to have kids and to have a better job, with prospects of progression.

Keiko’s story humorously leads to a reflection on the women’s role and on the expectations that are placed on us daily by others. “Convenience Store Woman” explores the social pressure that comes with those expectations, even if that means giving up on our individuality.
A very easy and fun read, that captivates us in terms of its originality and distinctiveness. It is the ideal book for relaxing after a long day at work!
