A literary journey, but not literal, written by the hands of Gloria Steinem. Feminist icon, social activist, journalist, power woman, our driver through this troubled trip.
My Life on The Road is a biographical book by Gloria Steinem and a real masterpiece.
As we read My Life on The Road, we understand that the road is a constant in the author's life and not something that changes. Gloria grew up in a family that, for a long time, avoided the creation of roots, so she early realized that a conventional way of life wasn’t for her – even if the child, daughter of travelling parents, really wanted it!
Initially, she travelled around Europe, but only after her trip to India did she realized that, after all, the life of a lonely traveler that her father had adopted wasn’t so unusual as she thought, and could even help to make the difference. This was a turning point: India and its people were what took her to understand the power of the communities, the power of talks, the power of sharing experiences, and the power of travels as a way to be closer and not as “getaways”.
Back from this experience, she decided to belong everywhere. She started her adventure as a freelancer journalist, which granted her a place in many important moments of the American and worldwide History – and even great deal of stories she shares with us in this book.
My Life on the Road is the perfect way to get to know the evolution of the feminist movement in The United States of America, but it is a lot more than that. To redthis book is to travel with Gloria, knowing her stories and memories, experiencing the passion of doing what you love.
Engaging, inspiring, distinctive… we could use a million words to describe this book, but the truth is that it is impossible to describe the feeling that it creates in us. My Life on the Road is the type of reading that motivates us to be better, to do everything we can to guarantee that our impact in the world will make ita better place – and it really can!
But, after all, how to expect anything else from such a remarkable woman?
